Volleyball Blanks Elms 3-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team received six kills and five solo blocks from freshman Abbie Badgett (Boston, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Elms College 3-0 this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 3-5 on the season, while the Blazers fall to 4-3.

Badgett paced the Rams around the net with a career-high five solo blocks and two block assists while also recording six kills.  Classmate Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, NY) chipped in with nine kills and four digs for the Rams, while fellow freshman Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.) added eight kills.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) chipped in with 12 digs, three aces and 20 set assists, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) added nine digs.

The Blazers were led by nine kills and three digs from junior Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, NV), while freshman Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) added two kills, two aces and 16 digs.  Freshman Dakota Stewart (Victoria, TX) chipped in with two kills, two aces, 13 digs and 22 set assists.

The Blazers opened up a 14-7 lead in the opening set before the Rams battled back to tie the game (20-20) and take their first lead (21-20) on back-to-back aces from sophomore Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI).  The Rams then rattled off four straight points to take the set 25-20.

In the second, the Rams jumped out to an 8-2 lead and led by as many as 11 (22-11) before securing the frame 25-14.

In the third, the Rams once again jumped out to the early lead and led 7-2 after a kill from Brinkman and 12-5 after an ace by Whalen.  Elms battled back and closed the game to two on several occasions including 16-14, before the Rams took the set 25-17 and secured the victory.

The Rams are back in action at home on Saturday when they host Western New England and Colby-Sawyer for a non-conference tri-match beginning at 11 a.m., while the Blazers host St. Joe's (CT) tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
