Volleyball Falls to Roger Williams 3-0 in Season Opener

Bristol, RI – The Framingham State University volleyball team opened the 2017 season this evening at the Roger Williams Invitational and were defeated 3-0 by the host Hawks.

After falling 25-17 in the first set, the Rams held leads in the second and third before the Hawks rallied to secure the match by scores of 26-24 and 25-22.

The Rams were paced defensively by 14 digs from senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.), while sophomore Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) added 11.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) guided the offense with 15 set assists, while freshman Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, NY) was solid in her first collegiate match with six kills and two blocks.

The Rams return to Bristol tomorrow morning for a pair of matches at the Invitational when they face Keene State at 11 a.m. and Emerson at 1 p.m.
