Volleyball Secures Top Seed in Upcoming MASCAC Tournament with 3-0 Win over Salem

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team secured at least a share of the MASCAC Regular Season Title and the top seed in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Salem State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

With one regular season conference game remaining this season, the Rams improve to 16-9 on the year and are now 5-0 in the league.  Westfield State currently sits in second place in the MASCAC standings at 4-1. 

The Rams defeated the Vikings, who fall to 6-18 on the year and 1-5 in the conference, by scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-11.

The Rams were led by 12 kills and six digs from senior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.), while junior Casie Thurber (Springfield, Mass.) added seven kills.  Senior Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in with five kills and two blocks, while sophomore Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) added 24 set assists.

The Vikings were led by six kills and four digs from freshman Emily Hennessy (Hanover, Mass.), while classmate Chloe Roy (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior Olivia Summit (Peabody, Mass.) added five kills apiece.

Prior to the game, the Rams recognized their two seniors, Rackliffe and Wan, who as a senior class have an overall record of 90-38 (.703 winning percentage) including a 21-2 mark in league play over the past four year.

The Rams host WPI and Keene State on Saturday in a non-conference tri-match beginning at 11 a.m., while the Vikings travel to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday for a triangular with Southern Maine beginning at 2 p.m.
