Salve Regina Rallies for 3-2 Victory over Volleyball

Framingham, Mass. – The Salve Regina University volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeated the Framingham State University Rams 3-2 this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Seahawks improve their record to 8-3 on the year, while the loss snaps a six game winning streak for the Rams who are now 6-5.

The Rams took the first two frames 25-22 and 25-19, before Salve rallied to pull out two straight 25-22 and 25-23. 

In the third, the Rams opened up a 9-5 lead before Salve came charging back tying the set at 9-9.  The Seahawks grabbed a two point lead (12-10), but the Rams tied the score on a block from senior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Casie Thurber (Springfield, Mass.).  The two teams would go back and forth and sat tied at 16-16. Salve Regina capitalized on an error by the Rams and a kill from sophomore Cassidy Trablicy (Phoenix, Ariz.) to secure the victory in the set (18-16) and match.

The Seahawks were led by Trablicy's match-high 33 kills on 56 attempts with just 10 errors for a .411 hitting percentage.  Freshman Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with 11 kills, while sophomore Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) led the defensive effort with 21 digs.

The Rams were paced by 29 kills from Rackliffe who compiled a .400 hitting percentage in the match. Rackliffe added eight digs, five blocks and a pair of service aces.  Thurber finished the match with nine kills and four blocks, while junior Sarah Leonard (Southboro, Mass.) added six kills, six aces and seven digs. Senior Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) recorded six kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) added 11 digs and 51 set assists.

The Rams take to the road for a non-conference match at Lesley on Thursday beginning at 8 p.m., while the Seahawks host Roger Williams in their conference opener tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
