MCLA Knocks Off Volleyball 3-0

Framingham, Mass. The MCLA volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) this evening with a 3-0 road victory over Framingham State University at the Athletic Center.     

Entering the contest, both squads were unbeaten in MASCAC action with the Rams sitting at 3-0 and the Trailblazers at 2-0.  After the victory, MCLA improves to 16-7 on the year and sits alone atop the MASCAC standings at 3-0.  The loss is the Rams first setback in MASCAC action since the 2013 season, as they move to 17-5 overall and are now 3-1 in the league.

MCLA took control of the match right from the opening set. With the Rams leading 7-6, the Trailblazers rattled off a 12-4 spurt to take an 18-11 lead. The Trailblazers never looked back eventually taking the set 25-18.

In the second set, MCLA opened up an 11-3 lead, but the Rams battled back to pull within one (22-21) on an error by MCLA.  The Trailblazers were able to take the set (25-22) on a kills from Allison Clark and an attack error by the Rams.  MCLA took the third set 25-16 to secure the victory.

The Trailblazers were led by 11 kills and 17 digs from Clark, while Rachel Mills chipped in with 10 kills.  Angelica Perfido had a solid all-around game for the visitors with nine kills, ten digs and four assists, while Brittney Pihl chipped in 14 digs.

The Rams were led by 12 kills and two blocks from junior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.).  Classmate Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in nine kills and four digs to go along with seven blocks that included three solos.  Senior Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) recorded four kills and 12 digs, while freshman Megan Leavens (Worcester, Mass.) finished with 10 digs. Sophomore Sarah Leonard (Southborough, Mass.) picked up 26 assists and nine digs.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday evening when they host Clark in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m., while the Trailblazers host Smith Thursday evening in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
