Volleyball Takes Two from St. Joe's and UMass Dartmouth

Standish, ME – The Framingham State University volleyball team cruised to a pair of victories this afternoon over the St. Joseph's University (ME) and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a non-conference tri-match.  The Rams defeated St. Joe's 3-1 and closed the day with a 3-0 victory over the Corsairs.

With the victories, the Rams improve their season mark to 17-4.

In the opener against St. Joe's, the Monks narrowly took the opening set 25-23, before the Rams closed the match with three straight victories – 26-24, 25-10, 25-21.

The Rams were led on the attack by the duo of juniors Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) who combined for 30 kills with Rackliffe recording 17 and Wan 13. Wan also picked up six digs and six service aces in the match.  Senior Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) led the defensive effort with 21 digs, while freshman Megan Leavens (Worcester, Mass.) added 14.  Sophomore Sarah Leonard (Southborough, Mass.) recorded 21 set assists, while freshman Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) contributed 11.

In their second match of the day, the Rams, who defeated UMass Dartmouth 3-1 on the opening weekend of the season, downed the Corsairs 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14.

The Rams were led by 10 kills from Rackliffe on 16 attempts with just two errors for a .500 hitting percentage.  Girard was solid from the back line recording seven service aces, while freshman Tessa Neverett (Athol, Mass.) added three for the Rams who recorded 17 aces in the match.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host MASCAC foe MCLA at 7 p.m.
