Volleyball Takes Two from Newbury and Southern Maine

Brookline, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 victories this afternoon over Newbury and the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference tri-match this afternoon at Newbury.

With the pair of victories, the Rams improve to 7-2 on the year, while Newbury is now 4-4 and the Huskies move to 8-1.

The Rams opened the day defeating the Nighthawks by scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-21.  The Rams were led by 14 kills on 22 attempts from sophomore Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.), while classmate Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) added 13 kills and 11 digs.  Seniors Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) and Morgan Drew (South Easton, Mass.) contributed 15 and 14 set assists, respectively.  Courtney Wilbur (Braintree, Mass.) had a solid match defensively with 11 digs.

The Rams closed the afternoon defeating Southern Maine 25-14, 25-17 and 25-23.  Rackliffe and Wan once again led the way with 12 and 11 kills.  Wan added 11 digs and six service aces and Rackliffe had three aces.  Sara Malicka (Southington, Conn.) racked up a team-best 17 digs, while Martin added 15 assists.

The Rams open conference play on Tuesday evening when they host Salem State University at 6 p.m.
