Volleyball Falls in Opening Round of NCAA's 3-0 at Conn. College

New London, Conn. - The Framingham State University volleyball team was defeated this evening in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship by Connecticut College 3-0.

In the final match of the day at Conn. College, the host Camels improved their record to 25-3, while the Rams finish their best season to date at 24-10.

"I thought Framingham State fought hard," Connecticut College Head Coach Josh Edmed said. "They are very well coached...We've had tremendous support over the last few years from our College to allow our teams to be in this opportunity so I am glad we were able to capitalize. It is nice for the College."

Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) buried 17 kills to go with seven digs, hitting .654 in the match. Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) had 11 kills, nine digs and four aces.  Katie Ketcham (San Francisco, Calif.) dished out the 2000th assist of her career, finishing with 36 in the triumph.  Anelise Hohl (Atherton, Calif.) added nine kills and Carly Guiducci (Del Mar, Calif.) registered 13 digs.

It was a historic season for the Rams of Framingham State University who were making their first NCAA appearance after capturing their first MASCAC Regular Season Championship since the early 1990s and their first ever MASCAC Tournament Title.

Sophomore Ashlee Nee (Hanson, Mass.) had six kills and 10 digs. Freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.) contributed six kills and eight digs for Framingham. Sophomore setter Kassandra Jermyn (Auburn, Mass.) dished out 17 assists in the match.

Junior outside hitter Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.), the 2012 MASCAC Player of the Year, had four kills and six digs in the match and was proud of her team's accomplishments.

"Our season went really well," Fernandes said. "We came a long way. Everyone just worked together. I feel like everyone put a lot into this. We worked our butts off. We definitely want to be here next year. This is the first time we ever won a conference championship. Now, we saw what it's like and we know what to prepare for."
