Eastern Connecticut Sweeps Tri-Match with Volleyball and Suffolk

Framingham, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team swept a non-conference tri-match with Suffolk University and Framingham State University this afternoon at Framingham's Athletic & Recreation Center.  The Warriors defeated Suffolk 3-0 and pulled out a thrilling 3-2 victory over Framingham State. Framingham State defeated Suffolk 3-1 in the day's other match.

With the pair of victories Eastern Connecticut is now 19-12 on the season, while the Rams move to 22-9 with the split and the Suffolk Rams are now 11-18.

Framingham State took the opening match of the day against Suffolk by scores 25-9, 25-27, 25-12 and 25-20.  Junior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) led the Rams with a match-high 17 kills and seven digs, while freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) chipped in 11 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) recorded 10 kills, four aces and five blocks, while classmate Kassandra Jermyn (Auburn, Mass.) chipped in 42 assists.

The Boston Rams were led by Hannah Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) who had nine kills and a pair of blocks, while Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) and Kathleen Matatall (Danville, NH) had six kills apiece.  Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Brillaud led the defensive effort with 14 and 13 kills respectively.  Jen Duston (Nashua, NH) and Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, Puerto Rico) dished out 11 and 10 assists.

In the day's second match, the Warriors defeated Suffolk by scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-10.  Danielle Bourne (Branford, Conn.) led the Warriors with nine kills and one error on 16 attempts for a hitting percentage of .500. Allie Henry (Middletown, Conn.) contributed 19 assists, while Erynn Miller (Stratford, Conn.) added 10 digs.  Katie Wilson (Pittsburg, CA) and Alli Luppi (Tewksbury, Mass.) had strong games serving for Eastern Connecticut with six and five aces respectively.

The Rams were led by Brillaud who had a team-high six kills and three digs, while Sarah Arbogast (Chesterfield, Mo.) added five assists.  Kennedy once again led the defensive effort with nine digs.

Eastern Connecticut pulled out a thrilling victory in the day's final match as they defeated the Rams by scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25 and 15-9.  Wilson led the offensive effort with a .340 hitting percentage as she racked up 25 kills.  Bourne chipped in 12 kills, while Henry dished out 23 assists.  Miller once again led the Warriors back row with 23 digs.

The Rams were led in their second match by Nee and Fernandes who recorded 20 and 14 kills respectively.  Nee also added 13 digs, while Fernandes added nine.  Girard led the defensive effort with 21 digs and two aces, while Jermyn finished with 47 assists and four aces.  Senior Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) contributed eight kills and four blocks on her Senior Day.

The Rams are the top seed in next week's MASCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament and will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, November 3rd with the first semifinal beginning at 11 a.m.  The Little East Tournament begins on Tuesday, October 30th for the Warriors.
