Volleyball Captures 2012 MASCAC Regular Season Title with 3-0 Victory over Salem State

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's volleyball team secured sole possession of the 2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's volleyball Regular Season Championship with a 3-0 victory this evening over Salem State University in a MASCAC match at Framingham's Athletic & Recreation Center. 

The Rams win their fourth overall MASCAC Regular Season Championship and their first since 1992 as they went a perfect 6-0 in MASCAC competition this season.  The Rams will be the top seed and host the semifinals and finals of the MASCAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, November 3rd

With the win, the Rams improve their season record to 21-8 which is the most wins in a single season during the tenure of head coach Dick Casali.  The Vikings fall to 4-16 overall and 2-4 in the MASCAC with the loss.

The Rams were led by the duo of junior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) who picked up a match-best 10 kills apiece.  Girard added 12 digs, while Fernandes picked up five and an ace.  Sophomore Michelle DeJesus (Framingham, Mass.) led the Rams defensive effort with a match-high 15 digs, while classmate Kassandra Jermyn (Auburn, Mass.) chipped in 30 assists.

The Vikings received a strong performance from senior Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, Mass.) who chipped in three kills and a team-high 13 digs.  Junior Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) added seven kills, seven digs and four blocks, while senior Angelica Gonzalez (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in 10 digs.

The Rams close the regular season at home on Saturday with a non-conference tri-match against Suffolk and Eastern Connecticut beginning at 11 a.m., while the Vikings host Newbury on Saturday at 1 p.m.
