Volleyball Secures Spot in MASCAC Tournament with 3-0 Win Over Salem

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College volleyball team secured the number four seed in the upcoming Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) volleyball tournament with a 3-0 win at home tonight over the Salem State Vikings.  With the win, the Rams even their overall record at 13-13 and finish MASCAC play at 3-3.  The loss drops the Vikings to 6-22 overall on the season and 1-4 in the MASCAC with one conference game remaining.

Framingham State College volleyball coach Dick Casali picked up his 87th career win on the bench for the Rams and is now the All-Time winningest volleyball coach in Framingham State history. Casali, who is in his sixth season with the Rams, passed Cynthia Souza who accumulated 86 wins from 1985-92.

The Rams easily won the first two games by scores of 25-9 and 25-10.  They opened up a 14-5 lead in the third, but the Vikings came charging back and tied the game at 20-20.  After an ace from freshman Alexandra Williams (Deerfield, Mass.) the Vikings led 21-20 and forced a Ram timeout.  The Rams regrouped and were able to win the set 25-22 as junior Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, Mass.), who led the Rams with 23 assists, served the final three points.

Junior hitter Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.) once again recorded double digit kills with a team-high 13 to go along with four aces and seven digs.  Classmates Lauren Kasischke (Methuen, Mass.) and Nicole Donofrio (Whitman, Mass.) added nine and seven kills respectively.  Freshman Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) chipped in a team-high 3.5 blocks.

The Rams return to action on Friday as they close out the regular season traveling to Bridgewater State for the Bears Halloween Classic, while the Vikings host MCLA on Friday at 6 p.m.
