Strong Second Half Seals Win for Worcester State Over Women’s Soccer

Worcester, Mass. – The Framingham State women's soccer team was defeated by Worcester State in non-MASCAC action by a score of 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in Worcester

THE BASICS:

- Score:  Worcester State 4, Framingham State 0

- Records: Framingham State (1-11, 1-4 MASCAC), Worcester State (3-7, 3-2 MASCAC)

- Location: Coughlin Field Worcester, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first half saw the Lancers on the offensive through most of the 45 minute action, working the ball around the field. The Rams worked diligently to keep the Lancers out of the box, allowing just four corner kicks in a half dominated by Lancer action.

  • Rams goalkeeper for the day, Regan Fein recorded 10 saves in the half while the Lancers recorded 16 attempts. Sophomore Erin Condon led the team's attack in the first half with three attempts, while the Lancers from the defense to the attack worked to get their way behind the Rams defense.

  • In the 43' minute of action the Lancers were finally able to break the stalemate with a goal by Emma Jacob as she snuck past the goaltender off a dropped pass from Addison Enos.

  • The second half saw an uptick in action for the Lancers as they spent a majority of the second half in the attacking end looking to expand upon their 1-0 lead.

  • The Lancers dominated the half but were unable to find a second goal until Lucy Watson was able to pick up a rebounded save from Condon's attempt. The ball knocked past the goalkeeper's hand onto Watson's foot, where a quick release doubled the Lancer's lead.

  • Worcester was not content to back down and continue their presence in the box. The game looked to be going to a 2-0 final, when the final two minutes saw a flurry of action that resulted in a deep shot from first year Olivia Magierowski to sail over Fein's head just barely grazing the crossbar to find the back of the net.

  • The scoring did not cease there, as Condon, who had been deprived of her goal for most of the match, finally connected with 30 seconds left to send the Lancers home with the 4-0 victory.
