Bridgewater Charges Past Women's Soccer

Framingham, Mass.-  The visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team cruised to an 8-2 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Framingham State University on Saturday at Maple Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Senior forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with two goals, including the 30th of her career, to go along with a pair of assists, while classmate Amelia Burke (Plymouth, Mass.) added two goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Monica Eires (New Bedford, Mass.), senior forward Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.), freshman midfielder Kelly Powers (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Erin Clancey (Middletown, RI) also scored for the Bears.
• After giving up the first goal of the game, Bridgewater State scored five times in the first half to take a 5-1 lead into the break. Burke notched the Bears' first two goals of the contest with Vincent assisting on both strikes. A pair of unassisted tallies by Vincent, her team-leading 12th and 13th goals of the season, made it a 4-1 game. Freshman midfielder Monica Eires (New Bedford, Mass.) capped off the scoring in the opening session with her first collegiate marker. Eires goal came with just 33 seconds showing on the scoreboard.
• Sanders, Powers and Clancey each found the back of the net in the second half to make it an 8-1 game with Powers notching her first collegiate goal.
• Junior midfielder Casey Good (Dartmouth, Mass.) gave the host Rams the 1-0 lead in the 16^th minute with classmate Jasmine Lees (Middleboro, Mass.) picking up the assist. Sophomore midfielder Camryn O'Leary (Leicester, Mass.) accounted for the final tally of 8-2 as she scored with just 1:23 left to play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Bridgewater State finished with a 31-12 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge in corner kick attempts.
• BSU senior goalkeeper Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made seven saves to record her ninth win of the season. Sophomore netminder Madison Brown (Attleboro, Mass.) turned aside 13 shots in the setback for Framingham State.

UP NEXT:

The Bears are off until next Saturday (Oct. 26) when they host MASCAC foe Fitchburg State University at noon. The Rams entertain UMass Boston on Tuesday (Oct. 22) afternoon at 3:30.
