Offense Comes Alive on Senior Day; Women’s Soccer Defeats Fitchburg 6-1

Framingham, Mass. – Five different Framingham State women's soccer players scored goals as the Rams went on to defeat Fitchburg State by a score of 6-1 in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win the Rams have clinched a berth into the MASCAC Championship starting this Tuesday and await the final seedings to learn their pairing. 

The Rams close the regular season at 6-10-1 and 2-5 in league play. The Falcons see their season close with a 4-13 mark and 1-6 record in the MASCAC.

Prior to the game the Rams honored the six senior splaying in their final season: Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.), Abby Smith (Quincy, Mass.), Kaelen Laroque (Upton, Mass.), Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.), Shelly Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.) & Haley McKay (Quincy, Mass.). 

The Rams got on the board first in the 5th minute when Erin Angelillo (Southington, Conn.) scored after a Rams player crossed the ball which was misplayed by a Falcon defender, gathered by Angelillo and sent home.

Later in the first half Kaleigh Pallotta (Hanover, Mass.) buried a free kick from about 29 yards out into the top left corner past the diving Fitchburg keeper to go up 2-0 

In the 24th minute the Falcons cut their deficit to one when Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored with a helper from Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass.).

The Falcons has a great chance to tie the game in the 32nd minute when a Falcons player had the ball with a wide-open net after the Rams goalie crashed but her shot when wide. 

The Rams scored four second half goals to reach the final margin. Melissa Sybertz (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored with a helper from Almstrom in the 47th minute. Pallotta scored her second of the day in the 55th minute before adding an assist on Smith's tally in the 72nd minute. Hansen scored the Rams 6th goal in the 83rd minute with help from Ana Barretto (Marlborough, Mass.).

Jennifer Stevens (Hopkington, Mass.) made three stops in net for the Rams. Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) turned away three shots in goal for the Falcons.
