Women’s Soccer Blanked at Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. – Worcester State University's Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) and Justine Butler (Marlborough, Mass.) connected on 2-of-3 goal-scoring corner kicks in the first half to lead the Lancers to a 3-0 homecoming win over Framingham State in a Saturday morning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. 

With the win the Lancers are now 9-4-2, 5-1 MASCAC. Framingham State falls to 4-10-1, 1-5 MASCAC.

Fong tallied the first goal of the game in the 4th minute when she took a corner on the left side, and perfectly curved the ball into the top right of the net for the 1-0 gain. Fong found the head of Butler on corner kicks in the 12th and 19thminutes to push the Lancers further away from the Rams and advance the score to 3-0. Worcester State held a 19-3 (13-3 SOG) shot advantage in the first stanza, and racked up eight corner kick opportunities while the Rams had none. 

Worcester State once again dominated the second half of play, putting up 16 shots in comparison to Framingham State's three. The Lancers also received five corner kicks chances in the second half but were unable to add another tally in the frame.

Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.) notched two shots on goal of Framingham's five shots on net.

Jill Zinkus (Grafton, Mass.) earned her seventh shutout of the season, stopping the Rams' five shots.

Framingham's Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) suffered the loss in a 20-save performance with a .870 save percentage.

Worcester State returns home on Tuesday (Oct. 24) for a non-conference matchup against UMass Dartmouth. The Rams resume play on the same date when they host Regis in a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt.
