Women’s Soccer Shutout at Westfield

Westfield, Mass.  – Senior Michaela St. Cyr (Lynn St. Mary's / Saugus, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead Westfield State to a 4-0 win over Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer match at Alumni Field on Saturday.

Westfield State improves to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the league, while Framingham is now 1-4, 0-1 in the MASCAC.

Westfield attacked Framingham's back four all day long, peppering the Rams with 31 shots.

The Owls got on the board first in the 13th minute, as Marissa McGue (North Quincy/Quincy, Mass.) converted off of a long ball sent into the box by Lydia Kinsman (Southwick/Granville, Mass.).

St. Cyr netted her first goal of the day just 28 seconds later, with a leaping volley off a cross from Bella Eduardo (Chicopee/Springfield, Mass.).   St. Cyr added he second goal of the afternoon in the 23rd minute of play, as senior Rene Hamel (Minnechaug/Monson, Mass.), a first-year transfer from Division II Southern New Hampshire University, lofted a long ball to the left side of the penalty area that St. Cyr won from a defender and found the back of the net for a 3-0 Owls lead at the half.

Westfield added more insurance in the 58th minute as Eduardo scored with blast of a free kick from 20 yards out.

Framingham goalkeeper Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.) made 11 saves on the day to help keep the Rams in the match.  The Owls had a 17-0 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Westfield State split the game between Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) and Leah Ciampa (Danvers, Mass.)  in goal; neither was required to make a save in preserving the shutout. 

Westfield will be back on the pitch on Wednesday evening, hosting Keene (NH) State in a non-conference match.  Framingham will host Rhode Island College in a non -conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
