Salem, Mass. -  Abby Smith (Quincy, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie in the 74th minute to lead the Framingham State Rams to a 1-0 victory over the Salem State Vikings in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on "Think Pink" day at Alumni Field. The Rams improve to 5-8 and 2-3 in conference while the Vikings slip to 3-10-1 and 2-3 in the MASCAC.

Smith took a deep corner pass from Jill Smith (Weymouth, Mass.) and headed the ball past keeper Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) into the upper right corner for the game's only score.

Framingham State controlled play for most of the first half despite holding just a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. The Rams missed two opportunities to put points on the scoreboard, the first off a free kick in which keeper Backe made a nice save on the initial shot, but the rebound attempt by Erin Angelillo (Southington, Conn.) went just high.  Minutes later, Hannah Kane (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed a low bending drive that was nearly converted by Haley McKay (Quincy, Mass.), but Salem State's Ceara Kelly (Holbrook, Mass.) made a sliding stop at the goal line to prevent the score.

Both offenses were limited in the second half with just six total shots combined attempted between the two teams. Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) had to make just two saves to pick up the victory while Backe stopped for shots for the Vikings.

Salem State will travel to Worcester State next Saturday for a match beginning at Noon.  Framingham State will host UMass Boston at 4:00 PM on Thursday.
