Women’s Soccer Downed by Roger Williams

Bristol, R.I. - The Framingham State University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup with Roger Williams University by a score of 5-1 Wednesday evening. The victory was RWU's third straight win.

Six minutes into the game, the Hawks came inches to taking the lead. Rams goalie Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) mishit the ball attempting to clear it and sent it right to an RWU player. Jodie Lavigne (Coventry, R.I.) would eventually take possession and fire a shot from the left side that just skimmed off the top of the crossbar.

The Hawks would come through later in the 14th minute, taking advantage of Ram miscue. Raleigh LeMiere-Barnes (Los Angeles, Calif.) crossed the ball behind her in the box that Gagne-Lamoureux tried to dive on but just missed. The ball would find Lavigne on the left side, allowing her to bury the shot into the open net.

Jenna Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) stepped up next for the Hawks. In the 30th minute, she took a pass from Ericca Broderick (Great Barrington, Mass.) up the middle, and made a move around the keeper to launch a shot into the left side of the net to put RWU up 2-0.

Lavigne tallied her second score of the game four minutes later, set up on a long pass by Hart. Lavigne grabbed possession of the ball on the left side, outrunning the Ram defense and making her way into the penalty area. She would fire a shot from close range that went just under the keeper to help send the Hawks into halftime with a three-goal lead.

The Hawks added another score shortly into the second period, with Ericca Broderick (Great Barrington, Mass.) notching her first score of her collegiate career. Hart made her way around the Ram defense and slipped a short pass to Broderick back to the middle. Broderick sent a shot past the goal to put RWU on top by four.

Lavigne completed the hat trick in the 73rd minute, connecting on a shot off of a loose ball. She would bent the ball into the right corner to give RWU a 5-0 lead.

Framingham State ended the shutout with a goal a minute later by Ashley Lees (Maynard, Mass.), knocking in a wayward ball that bounced off of a Hawk defender. That would be all the Rams could muster as RWU earned the four-goal win.

Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) needed only one save to earn the win. Gagne-Lamoreaux had four stops in the loss in the first half.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (3-5-2) travels to face Curry College, while Framingham State (3-5-0) heads to Bridgewater State.
