Late Strike Leads WPI Over Women’s Soccer

Worcester, Mass. – WPI senior Lynn Renner (Aberdeen, SD) scored the lone goal to lift WPI past Framingham State, 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer matchup Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.

With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-0 while the Rams slip to 0-2 on the season.

FSU senior Meghan Kenny (Danvers, Mass.) had the best opportunity in the first half as her attempt hit the crossbar in the 26th minute.

Shortly after the second half began, the lights went out. Following the delay, the Engineers turned up the pressure. The Crimson and Gray finally broke through on Renner's 45-yard free kick in the 72nd minute.

Despite yielding the goal, sophomore Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) was solid between the pipes and finished with eight saves. WPI sophomore Gabi Hoops (Stonington, CT) only had to make one for her third shutout of the season.

Senior Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) accounted for the Rams second shot. Freshman Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, Mass.) led all student-athletes with three shots, followed by Renner, juniors Sophie Gomarlo (Swanzey, NH) and junior Karina Larson (Storrs, CT) with two each.

WPI hits the road Friday night for a 7pm match at Fitchburg State. Framingham State heads to Regis for an 11am start on Saturday.
