Salem State had several scoring opportunities early on, but it was DeSouza who corralled a Vikings' pass and put it in the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Framingham State, which outshot the Vikings 10-5 in the period, had three late shots, but could not connect and the half ended at 1-0.
In an evenly played second half, the Rams' Kaelen Larocque (Upton, MA) gave Framingham State an insurance goal when she headed in a corner attempt to make it 2-0. Late in the game, Rams' keeper Jess Anthony (Stoneham, MA) was issued a red card after a takedown, and Framingham State backup goalie Sara Sullivan (Quincy, MA) finished out the final 2:49. Sullivan thwarted a Vikings' scoring attempt late, and despite being a player down, the Rams held on for a 2-0 victory.
Rachel Ledbetter (Dracut, MA) stopped nine shots for the Vikings, and Jess Anthony (Stoneham, MA) had six saves for the Framingham State.
Salem State will play their next game at 2:30 PM on Thursday at Gordon College. The Rams play again Thursday at 3:30 PM at Salve Regina.
