Women’s Soccer Blanks RIC 6-0

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Marissa D'Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) tallied a pair of goal as the Framingham State University women's soccer team defeated Rhode Island College today 6-0 in  non-conference women's soccer action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 5-4 on the year, while the Anchorwomen fall to 2-7 with the loss.

Rhode Island College's offense started the game on a tear with three quality scoring chances in the game's first six minutes.  Just under five minutes into the game sophomore midfielder Megan Saucier (Freetown, Mass.) fired a shot on net off a corner kick that beat the Rams goalkeeper, but senior Kerry Kiley, who was on the post was able to kick the shot away for the team save.  Two minutes later, junior Stephanie Choiniere (Hope, RI) took a feed in the box and was alone in front of the net with a chance to score but her shot sailed high.

From there the Rams took over the game outshooting the Anchorwomen 16-4 in the first half and 30-10 for the game.

Freshman Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) put the Rams on the board in the 12th minute as she took a long cross from sophomore Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) and found the back of the net for her team leading 6th goal of the season.

D'Angelo would extend the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Rams with her goals in the 24th and 26th minutes.  On her first, freshman Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) sent a cross into the box to D'Angelo who placed a shot inside the far post.  Kiley sent a long thru ball to D'Angelo just outside the box and D'Angelo was able maneuver free and score her second of the game.

The Rams would add three more in the second half – all unassisted goals – to reach the final margin of 6-0.  Parent fired a shot inside the upper ninety in the 57th minute for her 5th goal of the season.  Austin would score in the 84th minute after dribbling through the Anchorwomen's defense and perfectly placing the ball placed inside the far post.  Sophomore Kristi Stewart (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored on a long shot on the right sideline in the 87th minute to finish the scoring.

Framingham State goalkeeper McKenzie Vershon (Chicopee, Mass.) made five saves en route to her second shutout of the season.  Audrey Maia (Norton, Mass.), Abygayle Fisher (Exeter, NH) and Ashlyn Cleary (Tiverton, RI) combined in net for RIC with Maia surrendering three goals while making two saves.  Fisher allowed one goal with 10 saves in 52 minutes of action, while Cleary did not record a save but allowed two goals.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to MASCAC foe Salem State at 1 p.m., while the Anchorwomen resume Little East action on Saturday at UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
