Women's Soccer Closes 2010 With 3-1 Loss at Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. – Senior midfielder Kate MacLellan (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist - recording her 100th career point - to lead Westfield State University to a 3-1 women's soccer victory over Framingham State University on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30.

 With the victory the Owls finished tied with Worcester State for second place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with 4-1-2 records. Worcester won the tiebreaker in the MASCAC's four-team postseason tournament and will host Westfield in a semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.

 In the other semifinal, No. 1 MCLA, which won the MASCAC regular season crown with a 4-0-3 record, entertains No. 4 seed Bridgewater State. MCLA and Bridgewater played to a 1-1 tie in Saturday's regular season finale.

 MaClellan became the fourth player in Westfield State women's soccer history to score 100 career points. Entering the game with 97 points, she assisted on a Kayley Miller (Ludlow) that gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.

 MacLellan reached the magic milestone by scoring a goal with 1:18 left in the first half. Miller made long cross pass and MacLellan blasted a one-timer inside the left post from short range.

 Sophomore Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow) gave Westfield a 3-0 lead with a breakaway goal in the 69th minute. Framingham's Kerry Kiley (Mansfield) scored an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute.

Framingham out-shot Westfield, 10-9. Interestingly, the Rams out-shot the Owls, 10-2, in the second half.
