Women’s Soccer Defeats Mass. Maritime 5-0 for First MASCAC Victory

Framingham, Mass.  — Sophomore Megan Gangell (Lee, Mass.) scored two goals and senior Melissa Price (Norwood, Mass.) picked up two assists as the Framingham State University women's soccer team defeated Massachusetts Maritime Academy 5-0 this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action at Maple Street Field. With the win, the Rams improve to 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.         

Junior forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored the game winner just 3:41 into the game as she took a pass from Price and placed a shot in the back of the net.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the Rams until late in the first half when the Rams would add three goals in three minutes.  Sophomore Jillian Waters (Orange, Mass.) would strike first with an unassisted tally at 29:41.  Gangell would follow with the first of her two goals at 31:11 and the second off a feed from Price 49 seconds later at 31:50.

The Rams held a 20-6 advantage in shots for the game. Massachusetts Maritime goalkeeper Rachel Johnson made 12 saves in the game, while Kaitlyn Rossi (Pepperell, Mass.) made three for the Rams. 

Freshman Cara Murtagh (Quincy, Mass.) would add a goal for the Rams in the 76th minute off an assist from classmate Cassie Russo (Worcester, Mass.) to reach the final margin. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Newbury College at 3:30 p.m., while the Buccaneers entertain Coast Guard o Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
