Nichols Defeats Women’s Soccer 4-1

Framingham, Mass.  — The Framingham State University women's soccer team opened the 2010 season at home this afternoon with a 4-1 non-conference loss to the Nichols College Bison.  The game was also the season opener for the Bison, who are now 1-0, while the Rams are 0-1.    

The Bison took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute on an unassisted goal from sophomore forward Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.).  Freshman forward Starleena Cash (Springfield, Mass.) would put the Bison up 3-0 with back-to-back goals in the 35th and 39th minutes.

The game would remain 3-0 until the Rams broke into the scoring column in the 73rd minute.  Senior back Paige Cabezas (Holbrook, Mass.) found junior forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) in the middle and Kiley converted for her first goal of the season.

Nichols would add an insurance goal in the 84th minute by Kaitlyn Dibuono (Auburn, Mass.) to reach the final margin of 4-1.

Freshman Kaitlyn Rossi (Pepperell, Mass.) made six saves for the Rams and picked up the loss, while Nicole Hohnson (Westhampton, Mass.) picked up the win for the Bison making nine saves.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they host Curry College at 4 p.m., while the Bison host UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 4 p.m.
