Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime at JWU
East Providence, R.I.- Senior Angela Cazzato's (Rensselear, N.Y.) goal in the 97th minute propelled the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory against Framingham State in a non-conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Framingham State controlled the action in the first half, taking a 10-6 advantage in shots. None of them could find the back of the net, however as the two teams headed into halftime with a scoreless tie. It was more of the same in the second half with both teams failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities, ending regulation with a 0-0 score.
In the first overtime period, sophomore Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, Mass.) controlled the ball near the sideline at midfield and fed Cazzato on a breakaway. Cazzato then went 40 yards and buried a shot into the lower right corner of the net to give the Wildcats the 1-0 victory.
Junior Kory Blythe (Fall River, Mass.) had seven saves in the shutout victory for Johnson & Wales while freshman Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) had three stops in the loss for Framingham State.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 4-1 while Framingham State falls to 1-6. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 23rd when they host Rivier in a GNAC contest, starting at 7 p.m., while the Rams travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday at 6 p.m.
