Women's Soccer Cruises to Second Straight Win

Women's Soccer Cruises to Second Straight Win

Framingham, MA - Freshman forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) scored two goals as the Framingham State College women's soccer team cruised to a 3-1 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies at Maple Street Field this afternoon.  The Rams improve to 5-8 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 4-9-1.

Kiley put the Rams up 1-0 in the 30th minute as she took a pass from sophomore defender Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) and broke thru the Huskies defense for her team high 6th goal of the season.  The Rams would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute as Johnson headed in a corner kick from sophomore Melissa Price (Norwood, MA).

The Rams came out flat to start the second half and the Huskies capitalized on their sloppy play.  Freshman midfielder Bridget FitzGerald (Concord, NH) corralled a loose ball and knocked home her 2nd goal of the season at 49:27 to cut the Rams lead in half.

That was as close as they would get as Kiley added her second of the day in the 75th minute to secure the win.  Senior midfielder Jillian Landry (Southwick, MA) assisted on the tally.  Kate Simonelli made two saves and picked up the win in net, while Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand) made 10 saves in a losing effort.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as the Rams host Bridgewater State at 9 a.m. and the Huskies travel to Western Connecticut at 12 p.m.
