Strong Second Half Propels Merchant Marine Past Women's Lacrosse

Panama City Beach, Fla. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team led 7-5 at the half, but were defeated 17-12 by Merchant Marine Academy this afternoon in a non-conference contest in Panama City Beach at the Spring Fling.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Merchant Marine 17, Framingham State 12 

-Records: Framingham State (3-3), Merchant Marine (3-1)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 after a goal from Rachel Erickson and two from Hannah Guerin in the first three minutes of the opening quarter. 

  • Merchant Marine closed the quarter with a pair of goals late to trail 3-2 after one. 

  • Merchant Marine tied the game at 4-4 with just over two minutes to play in the second quarter, but back-to-back goals from Hailey Baker put the Rams up with just over one to play. Merchant Marine closed the gap to one, but Baker converted a free position shot with eight second left giving the Rams a 7-5 lead at the half. 

  • Merchant Marine closed the gap to one, 7-6, with just over 12 on the clock in the third, but three straight from the Rams pushed the lead to 10-6. 

  • Merchant countered with three straight once again closing the gap to one, but Leah Green pushed the lead back to two with a goal with just over six to play. Merchant Marine scored the final two goals of the quarter sending the game to the fourth tied 11-11. 

  • After trading goals to start the final stanza, Merchant Marine closed the game scoring the final five goals to secure the victory. 

  • Guerin finished the game with four goals for the Rams, while Baker finished with three goals and an assist. Green finished the game with three goals, while Regan Fein tallied a goal and two assists. 

  • Isabella DiMare took the loss in net for the Rams making nine saves.

The Rams are back in action next Thursday afternoon back home when they host Plymouth State at 4 p.m.
