MIT Holds Off Women's Lacrosse for 17-10 Victory

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team was defeated at home tonight 17-10 by the MIT Engineers in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Rams got on the board first on a goal from Madison Skiff just over two minutes into the game. 

  • The Engineers answered with a 4-0 run including a pair of goals from Sydney Pyon to take a 4-1 lead with just over seven on the clock. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit to 4-2 on a goal from Hannah Guerin, but the Engineers rattled off three straight to push the advantage to 6-2.  

  • Leah Green found the back of the net for the Rams in the closing minute of the first to make the score 6-3 after one. 

  • The Rams opened the second with back-to-back goals from Guerin to pull within one, 6-5, just over five minutes into the frame. 

  • MIT scored the final three goals of the quarter including two from Ellie Rabenold to lead 9-5 at the half. 

  • The Engineers opened the third quarter with two straight pushing the advantage to 11-5, but the Rams answered with two in a row to close the gap to 11-7. 

  • MIT's Meredith Arterburn tallied the final goal of the third with just over a minute remaining to give the Engineers a lead 12-7. 

  • The Rams closed the deficit to four, 13-9, on a Tara Palermo goal just under six minutes into the fourth, but MIT pushed the lead to six and would hold off the Rams for the victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Guerin finished the game with five goals and an assist for the Rams, while Skiff and Green finished with two tallies apiece. 

  • The Engineers were led offensively by five goals and two assists from Lindsey Gambino, while Pyin finished the game with four goals and Julianne Flusche added three markers. 

  • Alexis Buleigh took the loss in net for the Rams, but made seven saves. 

  • Elena Boal earned the win in net making nine stops for the Engineers.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they travel to MCLA for a MASCAC tilt at noon, while MIT hosts Smith in NEWMAC action on Saturday at 1 p.m.
