Begley Leads Women's Lacrosse Over Simmons 16-8

Boston, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Morgan Begley (Milton, Mass.) tallied a career-high four goals to lead the Framingham State University women's lacrosse team over host Simmons University, 16-8, this evening at Daly Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Begley added an assist to give her five points in addition to three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers for the Rams, while sophomore attacker Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) scored three times and assisted on a goal.

• Sophomore midfielder Hannah McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) netted a pair of goals as one of 10 different goal-scorers on the night for Framingham State, and won five draw controls.

• First year attacker Tara Palermo (Mashpee, Mass.) and senior attacker Shae Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) each scored and assisted on a goal with Palermo winning five draws and picking up a ground ball.

• Junior midfielder Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) and first year middie Devon DeMeo (Waltham, Mass.) each picked up four ground balls and Pacheco added a goal and two caused turnovers, while DeMeo caused a turnover.

• Framingham State held a commanding 38-16 shot advantage with 19 shots in each of the halves, while controlling the loose balls with a 27-17 margin in ground balls.
• Senior goalie Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) stopped four of 10 shots she faced in the opening 47:21 of play to earn the win, before yielding to sophomore Mikayla Seavey (Bridgewater, Mass.), who turned away two of four shots for the Rams.

• Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) led the Simmons offense with three goals in addition to two ground balls and a draw control, while senior midfielder Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) registered a game and career-high seven draw controls to go with a goal and a ground ball.
• Senior attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) contributed with a goal and an assist.
• Sophomore goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) finished with 11 saves.
• The match was the first between the schools since the 2012 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Sharks opened the scoring when junior midfielder Kingsley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) scored less than three minutes into the match, but Framingham scored seven of the half's final nine goals – all by different players --, including five straight markers after the Simmons opening tally.
• Begley's first goal of the evening gave the Rams a 5-1 lead with 9:27 left in the first period of play. Prior to her goal, Marino and McMahon scored within 72 seconds of each other and Palermo and junior attacker Audrey Duhaime (Belchertown, Mass.) each scored in a 33-second span.

• Simmons received goals from Reinhold and Cottam within a two-minute stretch to cut the deficit to 5-3 at the 4:29 mark of the opening stanza, but it was as close as the home team would get for the remainder of the night.

• McMahon netted the final two goals of the first half, including a player-down marker with 85 seconds left in the half to give the visitors a 7-3 lead heading into the break.

• The Rams opened the second session with four unanswered goals, including two each from Begley and Marino, to take an 11-3 cushion with 26:11 showing on the second half clock.

• Maiewski paused the Framingham State flurry with her third goal of the year for the Sharks, but Framingham State scored five of the next six goals, including Begley's fourth and first year midfielder Hailey Davis' (Windham, N.H.) first collegiate marker.
• Junior attacker Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) got on the board with the Rams' 16^th and final goal of the night at 17:44 to take an 11-goal advantage, before Simmons closed out the match with three straight tallies.
• First year attacker Maegan Neelon (Scarborough, Maine) and junior Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) each found the back of the net for the Sharks and Reinhold found twine for her third marker to end the night at 16-8 in favor of their guests.
