Marino's Five Goals Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Wheaton 12-8

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team received five goals from sophomore Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) as the Rams defeated Wheaton College 12-8 this afternoon in non-conference action at Diane C. Nordin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Lyons got on the board first just over a minute into the game on an unassisted tally from Kennelly Allerton, but the Rams answered right back tying the game 20 seconds later on an unassisted goal by sophomore Morgan Begley (Milton, Mass.).
• Begley connected on her second of the game off a feed from sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) at 25:47 putting the Rams on top for the first time in the game.
• Two straight by Wheaton put the hosts on top 3-2 with just under 18 minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
• The Rams would answer with two straight including one from Marino off a feed from Gamache. Then Gamache converted for her first of the game off a nice pass from Marino for the 4-3 lead.
• Wheaton tied the game on a marker by Emma Ford with 14:19 on the clock, but Marino connected off another Gamache helper and sophomore Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) followed with an unassisted tally for the 6-4 lead.
• The Lyons would add one more before the half from Lilly Callahan to head to the locker trialing the Rams 6-5.
• Marino opened the scoring in the second half with a goal just over five minutes in pushing the lead back to two, but Kyra Schwartzman scored less than a minute later cutting the gap to 7-6.
• Two straight from the Rams pushed the lead back to three.  Junior Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) struck first and Marino followed with her third of the game off a feed from freshman Hailey Davis (Windham, NH).
• Meg Sharick cut the deficit to two for the Lyons – 9-7 – with her goal with 9:59 on the clock, but two straight for the Rams including an unassisted tally from Begley and Marino's fourth of the game pushed the lead back to four with just over five on the clock.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Marino paced the Rams offensively with five goals, an assist and a ground ball. Begley finished the game with three goals and five ground balls.
• McMahon finished the game with a pair of goals, three ground balls and two draw controls, while Gamache chipped in with a goal, three helpers, three draw controls and a ground ball.
• Davis finished the game with three assists, while Pacheco added a goal, four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
• Senior goalie Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Rams making 12 saves including key saves down the stretch, while Jena Casman took the loss for the Lyons making 11 stops.
• The Rams held a 29-27 edge in shots for the game, while both teams scooped 36 grounds balls and controlled 11 draws apiece.
• The win is the first for the Rams against the Lyons who won the two schools first two meetings.
