Women’s Lacrosse Soars to 18-9 Victory Over Fitchburg State
Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back as they cruised to an 18-9 victory over Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at Maple Street Field.
With the win, the Rams, who have won 10 straight, improve to 11-1 on the year and are now 3-0 in the league, while the Falcons move to 6-5 on the year and are now 1-2 in the MASCAC.
The Rams were paced offensively by sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.). Gamache tallied four goals and a game-best seven assists with a ground ball and eight draw controls. Senior Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) added four goals and an assist with a ground ball and two draw controls. Freshman Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied three goals, while sophomore Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) added two.
The Falcons were led by three goals, two ground balls and two draw controls from sophomore Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.). Freshman Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals with an assist, while sophomore Sarah Napolitano (Peabody, Mass.) found the back of the net twice.
The Rams got on the board first just under four minutes into the contest when Gamache hit Marino with a pass in front of the net and Marino converted for the 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Gamache turned a Falcon turnover into a goal, before Napolitano converted off a restart for the Falcons first tally of the game.
The Rams would score the next three including a tally from freshman Britney Herskowitz (Cheshire, Conn.) with the shot clock expiring. Long found the back of the net with 18:37 left in the first half to pull within three at 5-2, but the Rams closed the half with five straight to take an 9-2 lead at the half.
The Rams outshot the Falcons 30-26 in the game and held a 21-13 edge in ground balls. Junior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the victory in net making nine saves and allowing nine goals. Junior Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) took the loss for the Falcons despite making seven saves.
The Rams are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Westfield State for a MASCAC game at 7 p.m., while the Falcons travel to Salem State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
