Curry Slips Past Women's Lacrosse 11-10
Milton, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team was edge 11-10 by Curry College this afternoon in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field on the campus of Curry College.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 7-7 on the year, while the Rams are now 6-5 on the season.
The Colonels grabbed the early lead with a goal from Malorie Knowlton just under eight minutes into the game, but the Rams rattled off three straight goals over the next five minutes including two from freshman Grace Gamache as the Rams led 3-1.
Curry answered with a run of their own tallying four straight to take a 5-3 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Kelly Parker recorded a goal and an assist on the spurt for the hosts.
The Rams received goals from freshmen Nicole Pacheco and Audrey Duhaime to tie the game at 5-5 with seven minutes remaining, but Parker tallied a goal with three minutes left in the half giving the hosts a 6-5 lead at the break.
The Rams opened the second half with a 3-0 run to take an 8-6 lead. Gamache found the back of the net unassisted twice, and Pacheco connected off a feed from junior Kimmy Foley.
The two teams traded goals with 13 minutes remaining giving the Rams a 9-7 lead, but three straight by the Colonels including one apiece for Knowlton and Parker put the Colonels back on to 10-9 with 11:36 on the clock.
Gamache converted off a feed from senior Lindsay Nixon with just under 11 remaining in the game to tie the game at 10-10, but Abigail Guilfoil tallied what would prove to be the game winner with just over seven remaining on the clock.
The Colonels held a slim 29-28 edge in shots for the game, while the Rams converted 4-of-6 free position shots.
Sophomore Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath took the loss in the net for the Rams despite making 12 saves. Rachel Smith earned the victory for the Colonels and made nine stops.
The Rams are back in action on Friday night when they travel to MASCAC rival Fitchburg State for a 7 p.m. game.
