Fitchburg State Shoots Past Women’s Lacrosse

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team used a 7-0 second half run to take control of the game as they defeated the Framingham State University Rams 15-6 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.     

With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-4 on the year and are now 3-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams slip to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

The Falcons grabbed the early lead with back-to-back goals just over three minutes into the game, but the Rams cut the lead in half on an unassisted goal from Jessica Graham (Woburn, Mass.).  The Falcons rattled off three straight including a free position shot from sophomore Jamiee Lutz (Foxboro, Mass.) to extend the lead to 5-1.  Sophomore Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored unassisted off a draw for the Rams with just over a minute remaining, but the Falcons answered right back with a goal from junior Ali Laferriere (Tyngsboro, Mass.) to take a 6-2 lead into the locker room.

The Rams cut the Falcon lead to three on a tally by Foley just over 11 minutes into the second half, but the Falcons erupted for a 7-0 run over the next nine minutes to take control of the game and reach a 10 goal differential.  Junior Kayla Panek (Derry, NH) found the back of the net three times during the run. Graham broke up the run with just over four minutes remaining as she tallied her second of the game.

Graham finished the game with two goals and a helper for the Rams, while Foley finished with two goals, four ground balls and five draw controls. 

The Falcons were led by four goals and four assists from Laferriere, while Panek found the back of the net four times in the game and Lutz added two goals.

The Falcons held a 32-16 edge in shots for the game and a 19-14 edge in ground balls.  Senior Liz Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) earned the win in net for the Falcons making six stops, while freshman Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams while making nine stops.

The Rams are back in action Saturday afternoon at MASCAC rival Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 12 p.m., while the Falcons host Worcester State on Saturday in a MASCAC tilt slated to begin at 1 p.m.
