Women's Lacrosse Holds Off UMass Dartmouth for 13-7 Win

Dartmouth, Mass. - Framingham State University senior Zoe Reilly (Boyertown, Pa.) and junior Stephanie Leonard (Framingham, Mass.) combined for nine goals to lead the Rams to a 13-7 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this evening in an NCAA Division III women's lacrosse game on Cressy Field.

Reilly turned in a balanced scoring effort with three goals and three assists to power Framingham State's (6-2) attack. The senior also controlled a team-high four draws to give the visitors a slight 11-10 edge.  Leonard netted four of her six markers in the opening 30 minutes of action, while also scooping up a team-best four ground balls.  

Junior Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) earned the victory in net, making six stops.

Sophomore Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Corsairs (1-7).  Junior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) won four draw controls, while senior captain Sarah Kalmes (Billerica, Mass.) collected a pair of ground balls.

The Rams led wire-to-wire, scoring the first two goals of the match.  Reilly cracked the scoring column just 26 seconds into regulation, while Leonard followed suit four minutes later. UMass Dartmouth responded 81 seconds later, when Longo converted a free-position attempt.  However, the visitors seized control of the contest with six consecutive goals to extend their lead to 8-1. Leonard keyed the surge with three markers, while Reilly found the back of the net twice. Framingham State entered the halftime intermission with a 10-3 advantage.

The Corsairs held an 11-7 advantage in shots in the second stanza to draw even at 23-all for the contest.  Both teams traded goals to open the second half, but UMass Dartmouth scored three of the final four to trim its deficit to six.  Sophomore Kelly Kryzak (Salisbury, Mass.) and Kish registered tallies less than two minutes apart, while Kalmes capped the scoring with 31 ticks left on the clock.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, when the Corsairs travel to Fitchburg State University for a non-conference tilt.  The Rams are also back in action on Thursday when they entertain Becker College at 7 p.m.
