Women’s Lacrosse Falls 13-10 in Season Opener to Regis

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team opened the 2015 season with 13-10 loss to Regis College this afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field. 

The Pride's Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) tallied three straight goals and assisted on another late in the second half to break open a 9-9 game and propel the visitors to victory.   The Pride are now 2-2 on the season, while the Rams are 0-1.

With game tied 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining, the Pride tallied four straight goals on a pair of unassisted markers from senior Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) and two from junior Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.). The Rams got one back in the final minute of the frame when junior Stephanie Leonard (Framingham, Mass.) converted a free position opportunity.

Regis added a goal in the opening minute of the second half on a free position shot from Busiek, but the Rams countered with a pair of goals to pull with two at 7-5.  Sophomore Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) converted a free position shot and freshman Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) followed with her first collegiate marker, but a free position shot from Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) pushed the Pride's lead back to three (8-5) with 23 minutes remaining.

The game was tied at 8-8 on a goal from Hoggins with 20 minutes remaining and again at 9-9 after goals from senior Zoe Reilly (Boyertown, PA) and Politis with just over 14 on the clock.  Politis assisted on Arianna Woodley's marker with 11:39 left to put the Pride on top for good.  Politis followed with three straight unassisted goals to seal the victory.

Both teams took 27 shots in the game with the Rams committing 16 turnovers to 15 for the Pride.  Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) earned the victory in goal for the Pride making 10 stops, while Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) was tagged with the loss and made six stops.

The Rams are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they host Mitchell College at 4:30 p.m., while the Pride travel to Emmanuel on Thursday at 7 p.m.
