Westfield State Flies by Women's Lacrosse, 13-1

Westfield, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team completed the conference portion of their schedule with a 13-1 road loss this evening at Westfield State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.

The Rams, who have their MASCAC bye on Saturday while the rest of the league finishes up conference games, finish the regular season 1-5 in the MASCAC and are now 2-13 on the year. Westfield State improves to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in the MASCAC with the victory.

Westfield State started the first half with a 6-0 run over the game's first 16 minutes to take the lead for good. Senior Marissa Canfield (Billerica, Mass.) got the Rams on the board with an unassisted tally with 8:43 remaining in the half.  The Owls answered with the final five goals of the first half and tacked on two more in the second to secure the decisive victory.

Blair Smith tallied four goals for the Owls, while Caroline Smart added three and a helper.  Stephanie lenhardt also had a solid game offensively with two goals and contest-best five assists.  Roni Orcutt and Meghan O'Brien also potted two goals apiece for the hosts.

The Owls outshot the rams 16-8 in the game and held a slim 17-16 lead in ground balls. Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) finished with a save between the pipes for the Rams, while Mimi Khampaeng and Emma Kervick combined to make five saves en route to the victory for the Owls.
