Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Rhode Island College 11-7

Framingham, Mass.  – The Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team received three goals and an assist from junior Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) as they defeated the Framingham State University Rams 11-7 on the road this afternoon at Maple Street Field in non-conference action.

With the win, the Anchormen improve to 3-1 on the young season, while the Rams fall to 1-2.

The Rams were led offensively by freshman Amy Rotger (Revere, Mass.) who tallied a team-high three points on a pair of goals and an assist.  Senior Amanda Geary (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and a helper apiece.

Ricci led the Rhode Island College offensive attack with her four points, while senior Jessalyn O'Neill (North Providence, RI) also chipped in with four on a pair of goals and a pair of helpers.  Junior Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) contributed three goals, while senior Ashley Appel (Foxboro, Mass.) added two.

Rhode Island College grabbed the lead for good just over two minutes into the game as O'Neill fed Landon in front of the net for her first of the contest.  RIC extended their lead to 4-0 late in the half before the Rams got on the board on freshman Kristen Hoggins' (Harvard, Mass.) unassisted tally with 4:06 remaining.  Ricci found Landon in front of the net with 1:51 on the clock to push the lead back to four but Rotger and Nixon connected just before time expired to pull the Rams within three at the break.

Ricci tallied to open the second for RIC, but the Rams responded with three goals to pull within one (6-5) on freshman Jessica Graham's (Woburn, Mass.) goal with 18:35 remaining.  That was as close as the Rams would get the rest of the way as the Anchormen potted the game's next three goals to extend the lead back to four.

Rhode Island College outshot the Rams 34-20 in the game and held a 27-20 edge in ground balls.  Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) suffered the loss in net despite making 13 saves, while senior Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) made 10 stops en route to the victory for Rhode Island College.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday evening with a non-conference game at Rivier, while the Anchorwomen travel to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday for a Little East Conference match-up.
