Strong Second Half Propels Fitchburg Past Women's Lacrosse

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team surrendered seven second half goals as they were defeated 15-9 this morning by Fitchburg State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup.

With the loss, the Rams are now 1-8 on the season and 1-2 in the conference, while the Falcons improve to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the MASCAC.

Junior Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) led the Rams with a team-high four goals, while senior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) added three.  Junior Kalie Giatrelis (Mashpee, Mass.) was the only other Ram to find the back of the net as she scored twice.

Fitchburg State received five goals from Markie Apple and two apiece from Jessica Bartlett, Kayla Bridges, Kristin Dooley, Chelsea Roberts and Leslie Jaffie.

The Rams trailed by just two at halftime, but the Falcons opened the second half with a 6-0 run to take control of the game.

The Falcons outshot the Rams 29-17 in the game and held a slim 25-23 edge in ground balls.  Elizabeth Darrigo picked up the victory in net for the Falcons making eight saves. Freshman Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) made 14 saves for the Rams in a losing effort.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a MASCAC contest against Worcester State University slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Maple Street Field.
