Plymouth State Powers Past Women’s Lacrosse

Framingham, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team received goals from 12 different players as they defeated the host Framingham State University Rams 21-2 this afternoon  in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.   

With the win in a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Plymouth, the Panthers improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Rams slip to 1-7.

Senior Marie Lander (Ossipee, NH) collected four points in the game on three goals and a helper, while freshman Emily Tilton (Cranston, RI) and classmate Brogan Canty (South Windsor, Conn.) scored three goals apiece.  Sophomore Meghan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.) had a solid game for Plymouth with two goals and two assists, while sophomore Shannon Connerty (Nashua, NH) and Rachel Fistori (Medford, Mass.) chipped in with two markers each.

The Rams were led by single goals from junior Kerri Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) and sophomore Ashley Holmes (East Sandwich, Mass.), while senior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the Rams lone assist in the game.

Plymouth State took the lead for good with three goals just under four minutes into the game as McNabb, Amy MacDonald (Hull, Mass.) and Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, NH) all scored unassisted.  The Panthers, who held the Rams without a shot in the opening half, converted four free position opportunities as they took a commanding 15-0 lead at the break.

The Rams were able to get a little offense going in the second half as they tallied goals two minutes apart midway through the frame.  Robinson scored unassisted and Masse hit Holmes with a pass behind the net and Holmes made a nice move to get in front and fire a shot into the goal.  Plymouth State closed the game with four unanswered goals to reach the final margin.

The Panthers outshot the Rams 36-5 in the game and held a 17-6 edge in ground balls.  Freshman Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams as she made eight saves, while junior Lorin Field (Hollis, NH), sophomore Casey Curran (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Mollie Brown (Westwood, Mass.) all saw action in net for Plymouth with Curran making a save and Brown also making one.

The Rams return to conference action on Saturday morning when they travel to Fitchburg State at 10 a.m., while the Panthers host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday in a Little East matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
