Early Run Propels UMass Dartmouth to Victory over Women's Lacrosse

North Dartmouth, Mass. – Freshman attacker Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) scored a game-high five goals and dished out three assists to lead the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team past visiting Framingham State 17-10 in a non-conference game at Cressy Field Tuesday evening.

The Corsairs (5-5) opened the scoring at 28:43 when junior midfielder Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) scored off a Kane assist. Kane and senior midfielder Denise Gates (Feeding Hills, Mass.) both had hat tricks in the opening 30 minutes as the home team opened the game on a 9-1 run in building a 10-2 halftime lead.

The Rams (1-6) refused to go away without a fight and came out strong in the second half. After Gates opened the scoring in the second half, Nicole L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) and Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals to make it 11-4. Zoe Reilly (Boyertown, PA) would add back-to-back markers of her own at 17:44 and 12:55 to cut it to 13-6.

The goals would continue to come in pairs to close out the game. Senior attacker Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Corsano netted goals 17 seconds apart to make the score 15-6. Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) and Masse then answered back for Framingham State, making it 15-8 with 6:22 to play. After a Corsano goal and a Kane free-position marker, Masse and Reilly both found the back of the net to close out the contest.

Gates and Corsano both finished the game with four goals for the Corsairs, while Enos added three of her own. Gates, Corsano and Kane each had three assists on the night.

Reilly paced the FSU offense, scoring four goals on a game-high 13 shots. Masse chipped in three goals with L'Heureux contributing a pair.

Senior goalkeeper Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass.) stopped 14 of 24 shots between the pipes for UMass Dartmouth. Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) and Rebecca Rixon (Stow, Mass.) combined to make 10 stops on 27 shots for the Rams.

UMD held a slight edge in ground balls, 28-25, and draw controls, 15-13.

Both teams are back in action Thursday, with the Corsairs traveling to Fitchburg State and the Rams making the trek to Plymouth, NH, to take on Plymouth State.
