MIT Uses Second Half Run to Pull Away From Women’s Lacrosse

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Emma Kane (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied a game-best five goals and two assists to lead the MIT Engineers to a 21-6 victory over the Framingham State University Rams in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Framingham's Maple Street Field.   

With the win, the Engineers move one step closer to .500 at 4-5 on the year, while the Rams slip to 0-5.

Kane led all scorers with seven points in the game on her five goals and two helpers, while senior Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and freshman Nadia Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in five points apiece.  McShane tallied four goals and a helper en route to her five, while Wallace reached her five with two goals and game-best three assists.  Senior Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) and freshman Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) chipped in three goals apiece with Wright adding two assists.

The Rams were led by sophomore Zoe Reilly (Boyertown, Pa.) and senior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) who each picked up two goals and an assist in the game.  Freshman Amanda Geary (Marlboro, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal in the contest, while sophomore Ashley Holmes (East Sandwich, Mass.) accounted for the Rams remaining score.

MIT took a 4-0 lead just ten minutes into the game as Kane tallied a pair of goals and Wallace and senior Laura Wacker (Brooklyn, N.Y) each added markers.  Masse got the Rams on the board with 17:43 remaining in the first when she converted a free position opportunity.

Kane answered with an unassisted tally for the Engineers, but Reilly cut the deficit back to three with a free position shot for the Rams with just under 13 minutes remaining in the opening frame.  After a McShane tally, Holmes scored off a Masse assist to cut the MIT lead back to three at 6-3, but the Engineers closed the half with five straight, including a pair of free position shots, to take control of the game.

The two teams traded goals to start the second half, but MIT rattled off eight straight to take the game's largest lead, 21-6, with just over three minutes remaining.  Masse finished the game's scoring with an unassisted tally with 1:28 on the clock.

MIT outshot the Rams 38-13 and held a 26-19 advantage in ground balls.  Sophomore Candice Kaplan (Arlington, Va.) picked up the victory in net making two saves and surrendering three goals in her half of work, while freshman Paige Kennedy (Eastchester, N.Y.) also made a pair of stops in her half of action.  Freshman Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) suffered the loss for the Rams making eight stops before giving way to junior Rebecca Rixon (Stow, Mass.) who did not make a save but surrendered six goals in 14 minutes of action.

The Rams return to MASCAC action on Saturday when they host Salem State at 4 p.m., while the Engineers host Keene State in a non-conference tilt on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
