Women's Lacrosse Eliminated from ECAC Tournament with Loss to Wheaton

Norton, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team advanced to the finals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with a 20-6 win over Framingham State in the semifinal round Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field.

With the win, the Lyons (13-6) advance to the finals for the first time in school history and will face the winner of No. 2 Lasell/No. 3 Smith Sunday afternoon at noon.

Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H.) paced the offense with six goals and two assists, which gives her a new program in single-season scoring with 120 points. Sophomore Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn.) potted four goals and handed out a pair of assists while sophomore Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine) tallied three goals and two assists and junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I.) notched four points (2-2-4).

The top-seeded Lyons built a 8-0 lead less than eight minutes into the contest behind three goals from DeSantis and two each from Colburn and Mills. Wheaton led 14-4 at the break and never saw its lead dip below 10 goals the rest of the way.

Colburn won a team-high seven draw controls, sophomore Devon Soucier (Avon, Conn.) collected a team-high four ground balls, and freshman Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass.) made three saves to earn her 12th win of the season.   

Seeded No. 4 in the tournament, the Rams received two goals each from senior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) and junior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, Vt.). Kiley also won seven draw controls while sophomore Marissa Canfield (Billerica, Mass.) caused a game-high four turnovers. Sophomore Rebecca Rixon (Stow, Mass.) recorded seven saves in goal.

Wheaton improves to 4-2 lifetime in the ECAC Championship and 2-0 against Framingham State. The Rams finish their season with a school best 10-8 record.
