Women’s Lacrosse Fourth Seed in ECAC New England Championship Tournament
Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team has been selected as the fourth seed in the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The Rams will host fifth seed Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday, May 9th, at 4 p.m.
The winner of the #4/#5 game will face top seed Wheaton College (12-6) in one semifinal on Saturday at noon, while second seed Lasell College (15-3) will meet third seed Smith College (9-8) in the other semifinal at 3 p.m. Both semifinals will be played at Wheaton College on Saturday and the tournament will conclude with the winners of the two semifinals meeting on Sunday at Wheaton at 1 p.m.
Framingham State enters the tournament with a school record nine victories as they are 9-7 on the season and they posted a 6-2 mark in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA). The Rams, who earn their first ECAC Tournament bid, were the third seed in the NEWLA Championship Tournament and were eliminated in the semifinals by Westfield State University.
Led by senior standout Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.), who holds seven Framingham State scoring records and currently ranks first in the NEWLA with 67 goals on the year, the Rams have won five of their last six games. Kiley was a first team All-NEWLA selection this season, while classmate Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) was a second team selection along with junior Courtney Robinson (Beverly, Mass.). McLean, who ranks tied for second in the conference with 23 assists on the season, is second on the team in this scoring behind Kiley.
The Chargers enter the ECAC Tournament with an overall record of 8-8 and a 4-2 mark in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Colby-Sawyer was also eliminated in the semifinal round of their conference tournament by New England College. The Chargers are led by first team All-NAC selection in senior Brittney Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) who has tallied 66 goals with 35 assists on the season for 101 points. Junior Laurel Bauer (Bradford, NH) is second on the team in scoring with 35 goals and eight assists.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse.
