Women’s Lacrosse Third Seed in NEWLA Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team has earned the third seed in this week's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Championship Tournament.  The Rams will travel to second seed Westfield State University in one semifinal on Wednesday evening, May 2nd, for a 6 p.m. game.

The top seeded Bridgewater State University Bears will host fourth seed Fitchburg State University in the other semifinal on Wednesday.

Framingham State finished the regular season a school record 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference and are rolling into the tournament winners of five in a row, all against NEWLA opponents.   The Rams and the Owls met earlier this season with the Owls garnering a 19-5 victory.

The Rams are led by senior standout Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.), who holds seven Framingham State scoring records and currently ranks second in the NEWLA with 62 goals on the year, and classmate Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.), who ranks third in assists with 21.  McLean is second on the team in this scoring behind Kiley with 34 goals and 21 assists for 55 points.  Junior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) and sophomore Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) are also having strong seasons for the Rams with 45 and 31 points respectively.

The NEWLA Women's Lacrosse Championship concludes on Saturday when the winners of the two semifinals meet for the championship which will be played at the highest remaining seed.  The winner of the NEWLA Championship game will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.
