Women’s Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with 21-4 Triumph over Becker

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team led by seniors Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) and Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) closed the regular season this afternoon with a decisive 21-4 victory over Becker College in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Rams head into the NEWLA post season tournament winners of five straight as they improve to a school record 9-6 on the season and 6-2 in conference, while the Hawks close the 2012 campaign at 3-14 overall and 2-6 in the NEWLA.

Kiley led all scorers with a game-best five goals and an assist, while McLean finished with four markers and two helpers for six points.  Junior Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) also contributed four goals, while classmate Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) added a pair of goals and a pair of assists.  Freshman Ashley Holmes (East Sandwich, Mass.), sophomore Kerri Robinson (Mashpee, Mass.) each tallied a pair of goals, while junior Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) added a goal and a game-high three assists.

The Hawks were led by sophomore Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, NY) who tallied a pair of goals, while senior Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT) and sophomore Shannon Smith (Barre, VT) each chipped in a goal.  Sophomore Smantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, NJ) picked up the lone assist in the game for the Hawks.

The Rams opened the scoring with three goals in the game's first three minutes and never looked back as they extended the lead to 12-0 late in the first.  Mossey's first tally of the game got the Hawks on the board late in the frame, but the Rams added one to take a 13-1 lead at the half.

Becker struck first in the second half with Hazen scoring off a Dilkes feed in the opening minute, but the Rams answered with seven goals in a row.

The Rams outshot the Hawks 36-13 in the game and held a 27-14 edge in ground balls.  Sophomore Rebecca Rixon (Stow, Mass.) recorded her fifth victory of the season in net making three saves, while freshman Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up the loss despite making nine stops.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, May 1st in the opening round of the NEWLA Tournament as the third seed and will travel to second seed Westfield State University.
