Women's Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener at Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. – Senior Carly Keeley (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals and freshman reserve Stephanie Lenhardt (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied a game-high eight points (four goals, four assists) to propel Westfield State University to a 19-5 women's lacrosse victory over Framingham State University this evening.

It was both the conference and home opener for the Owls, who are 2-5 overall after starting the season with six straight road games, while the Rams fall to 0-1in conference and 3-2 overall on the year.

Sparked by five first-period goals from Keeley, Westfield raced to a 12-2 halftime lead. Keeley scored twice as the Owls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening four and a half minutes.

Westfield's second leading scorer was freshman Amanda Bouchard (Lexington, Mass.), who finished with seven points (three goals, four assists). Junior Maura Stack (Wilbraham) chipped in two goals and an assist.

Senior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored three goals for Framingham, all on free position shots, while Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) and Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in one apiece.

The Owls led in draw controls, 16-9, for the game including an 11-3 edge in the first half, shots (31-16), and ground balls (20-14).

The Rams return to action on Tuesday at Western Connecticut at 4 p.m.
