Kiley Leads Women’s Lacrosse Past Rhode Island College, 11-5

Framingham, Mass. – Senior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) tallied a game-best and season high seven goals as the Framingham State University women's lacrosse team defeated Rhode Island College 11-5 this afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

The Rams, winners of three in a row, improve to 3-1 on the young season, while the Anchorwomen fall to 1-3.

Rhode Island College struck first taking 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the game.  From behind the net sophomore Cassy Arines (Warwick, RI) fed a pass to classmate Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI) cutting down the middle and Signoriello found the back of the net with a well-placed shot.

The edge would not last long and would be the Anchorwomen's only lead in the game as Kiley answered with three goals in a six minute span to put the Rams on top for good.  On her first tally, Kiley scooped a groundball and raced to the front of the net beating the Anchorwomen's goalie low at 23:13.  Junior Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) fed Kiley on a give-and-go for her second marker of the game at 19:57 and she scored unassisted at 18:13 to cap the spurt.

Senior Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) pulled the Anchorwomen back within one (3-2) when she converted a free position opportunity at 15:01.

Junior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) put the Rams back up by two with just under seven minutes remaining in the first as McLean fed Temple with a pass right in front of the net and Temple converted on her first of three in the game.

Senior Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) answered with a goal off a Voyer assist to cut the lead back to one with just under four minutes to go in the frame.  That was as close as RIC would come for the remainder of the game as the Rams rattled off three goals in the final three minutes including a pair from Kiley to take control of the game and a 7-3 edge at the break.

Rhode Island College cut into the Rams lead 17 seconds into the second half as senior Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) hit freshman Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) with a pass and Ricci connected on her first of the game.

The Rams responded with a 4-0 run, including a pair from Kiley and freshman Ashley Holmes' (East Sandwich, Mass.) first goal of the season, to push the lead to 11-4 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

Voyer added her second of the game with 6:55 left to reach the final score of 11-5.

The Rams outshot the Anchorwomen 35-13 in game and sophomore Rebecca Rixan (Stow, Mass.) picked up her first win of the season making six saves.  RIC goalie Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) made 18 saves and picked up the loss.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they begin league play at Westfield State at 5 p.m., while Rhode Island College returns to action on Thursday at Salve Regina at 6 p.m.
