Women's Lacrosse Wins Second Straight with 16-9 Victory over Simmons
Boston, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team defeated host Simmons College 16-9 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Winsor fields.
Framingham State senior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored five goals and junior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) added four more to give the Rams their second win of the season.
The Rams opened the scoring early with Kiley beating Sharks goalkeeper Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) down low less than three minutes into the half. Junior Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) buried a free position shot to double the score and Temple scored unassisted to increase the Rams lead to three.
Simmons freshman Caitlin McNamara (Abington, Mass.) connected with Becca Shea (Quincy, Mass.) twice, sending two shots past Ram's goalkeeper Rebecca Rixan (Stow, Mass.) to bring the Sharks within one. Senior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) tied the game at three off an unassisted goal with 24:01 remaining in the half.
Framingham State scored seven unanswered goals late in the half including a pair apiece from Kiley and Temple before McNamara found the back of the net off a stellar look from Shea to send the game to half with the Rams leading 10-4.
The Sharks scored just twenty seconds into the second half when McNamara found Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.) in the arc. Rams freshman Zoe Reilly (Boyertown, PA) and Kiley combined for three more goals before Luke converted on a man up situation off an assist from Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) making the score 13-6 with just over 17 minutes remaining.
Sharks freshman Callie Warnock (Kingston, Mass.) won 19 draw controls to the Rams' seven and added a goal and four ground balls on the day. Simmons held a 37-26 advantage in ground balls but the Rams outshot the Sharks 44-24.
Rixan finished the game with four goals against and three saves before giving way to Courtney Robinso who allowed five goals with a save.
Simmons returns to the field on Tuesday, March 27th when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Rivier at 7 p.m., while the Rams host Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
