Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Lasell 13-12 with Last Second Goal

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.) scored unassisted with one second left on the clock to lift the Framingham State University women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over Lasell College in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field. 

With the win, the Rams improve to 4-6 on the year, while the Lasers move to 9-5 with the loss.

The Rams started the game fast jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes and extending their lead to 7-0 before taking an 8-1 lead at the break.  Sophomore Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) scored three goals for the Rams in the first half while senior Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.) scored twice in the first half.

Sophomore Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) scored the Lasers lone goal in the first half with her tally off a feed from Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) with just over three minutes left in the first.

After trading goals in the first four minutes of the second half, the Lasers scored four of the game's next five goals to pull within four at 10-6.  Ashley Slattery scored twice and Canavan added a pair of assists during the stretch.

The Rams pushed their lead back to six with just over ten minutes remaining in the game on tallies from Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) and Rijo.

Lasell countered with another offensive push scoring six unanswered goals to knot the game at 12-12 with 22 seconds left in the game.  Canavan scored a pair of goals and assisted on two other tallies during the run.

The Rams controlled the final draw and moved the ball quickly down the field setting Rijo up for the game's decisive goal as time expired.

Canavan led the Lasers with seven points in the game on a pair of goals and five assists, while Stanton finished the game with four goals and Britney Wuorio added two.

The Rams were led the Rijo who finished the game with six points on five goals and an assist, while Temple finished with three goals.  Junior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) chipped in a goal and a pair of helpers.

The Rams return to action on Thursday at Plymouth State at 4:30 p.m., while the Lasers also return to action Thursday as they host Emmanuel at 4 p.m.
