Women's Lacrosse Shutsout Elms, 21-0
Chicopee, Mass. –The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team received three scores apiece from Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.), Heather Massee (Billerica, Mass.) and Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) as they picked up a 21-0 victory over Elms College in Saturday afternoon's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Leary Field.
With the loss, Elms falls to 2-8 overall, 0-4 in NEWLA action, while Framingham State improves to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Framingham State notched a 14-0 lead over the first 30 minutes of play, highlighted by three scores from Massee and Kiley, and two from Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.).
A goal by Chelsea Temple (Rutland, Vt.) 8:11 into the second half gave the Rams a 15-0 cushion and Corrales followed with two more goals to extend the lead to 17-0 with 17:19 to play.
Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.), who played between the pipes in the opening period, came out of net in the second stanza and scored on a free position shot at the 11:22 mark to give Framingham State an 18-0 advantage.
The Rams scored three more times in the final eight minutes of play as Julie Leone (Quincy, Mass.), Victoria Majcher (Framingham, Mass.) and Melissa Price (Norwood, Mass.) each found the back of the net to complete the 21-0 win.
Elms College freshman goalkeeper Julie Hurley (Palmer, Mass collected 15 of her 24 saves in the first half and moves to 0-1 on the season, while Turner earned the victory and improves to 3-3 on the season. Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.) played the second half in goal for Framingham State and added a save.
McLean scooped up seven groundballs to lead the Rams, while Kiley added five in the winning effort.
Elms' junior attacker Emily Walsh (Hadley, Mass.) corralled a team-high six groundballs, while junior defender Sarah Picard (West Springfield, Mass.) added five groundball pickups.
Elms returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, April 12 when it hosts Wheelock College, while the Rams also return to action on Tuesday with a non –conference game at UMass Dartmouth. Both game are slated to begin at 4 p.m..
